The CDL mainly distinguishes itself by staying actively involved in all educational matters. This is primarily done through the evaluation of the Bachelor’s programme Molecular Science & Technology (MST) at Leiden University and the TU Delft, and the evaluation of the Master’s programme Chemistry at Leiden University. The CDL supports both programmes in a multitude of ways. The CDL also organises educational activities, such as resit crash courses for MST and laboratory visits.

Resit Trainings
One of the educational activities organised by the CDL are the resit crash courses for a select few Bachelor’s courses. These crash courses are meant to prepare students for their resit, not by teaching them ‘tricks’ to easily pass the exam, but by giving them an opportunity to test their knowledge and having students work together. More information about specific resit crash courses will be communicated through social media and on the ‘activities’ page near the end of each period.
Exam Database
Practice and feedback are the essence of learning. That’s why the CDL aims to provide its members with an exam database that is as complete and correct as possible, which can be used in preparation for exams. We are always trying to expand our database, so feel free to stop by the boardroom to turn in your exam. (Important note: we only publish exams when the respective professor gives us permission to do so, so make sure they are OK with it!)
Evaluation of Education
The CDL itself directly evaluates the quality of education of MST through the Lecture Response Committees (CRC's), three committees for each year of MST consisting of students and the Commissioners of Education of the CDL and the TG. The feedback provided by the students in these committees is shared with the Opleidingscommissie (Programme Committee), which uses that feedback to change aspects of the Bachelor’s programme if necessary.
The education team of the Master Chemistry organises lunches each academic period where students can give feedback. These evaluation sessions are led by the Commissioners of (Master) Education of the CDL and S.V. LIFE. Finally, there is also a Programme Committee (PC) for the Master Chemistry, which consists of students and teachers and independently assures the quality of education of the Master Chemistry. CDL’s Commissioner of Education attends all PC meetings.
Research Projects (BSc MST)
Bachelor’s students MST will partake in a few research projects during the courses ‘Leren Onderzoeken’ (LOs). At least one of these projects will be supervised by a research group of Leiden Institute of Chemistry (LIC). These research groups cover many specialties within the field of chemistry and because Bachelor’s students may not be aware of the possibilities, the CDL organises laboratory visits where students can see their knowledge put to practise. This way students also get to know more about the many research groups of LIC. More information on the research groups of the LIC can be found on their website.
Study Material
Lastly, the CDL organises the Labjaspasdag at the beginning of each academic year, which is the day when (first-year) students can buy their lab coat and safety goggles. Books can be ordered before (and of course during) the start of each semester. The list of study books on WO4YOU is composed of books recommended by each responsible teacher or professor. CDL members will receive a discount when ordering at WO4YOU.
